Rosa Geiger Adler Zabel
One of the early business people in Delano
“The Zabel Style Shop/Rosie's”
Rosa was the proprietor of her own shop for Over 50 Years
Rosa Geiger was born in 1879 on a farm west of Delano. Her father, Jacob, died in 1885, and the family, consisting of her mother Christina, and three older sisters, Mary, Anna, and Lena, remained on the farm with Henry Rittke as their hired man.. Mary married William Kaeppe in 1888, and Anna married Joseph L. Matter in 1892. The 1895 census shows Christina, Lena and Rosa living with Mary and William, but by 1900 Christina and Rosa had moved into Delano, and Rosa, at age 19, had opened her millinery shop. Rosa married Herman Adler in 1905, and had two children: Mildred and Milton. Herman died unexpectedly from heart trouble in 1911. After Herman’s death, Rosa married again, in 1914, to William F. Zabel, a carpenter. Rosa continued her millinery business as the Zabel Style Shop but the store was known as Rosie’s and provided local ladies with stylish clothing for over fifty years.” Rosa carried on in her business until illness prevented her. Rosa died in 1954, after 55 years as a Delano businesswoman. She is buried in Schroeder’s Cemetery beside her first husband, Herman A. Adler.
