Delano Water System
Delano Municipal Utilities includes a large water system. Improvements have constantly been made to the system, including the drilling of additional wells and the installation of larger water towers.
The oldest well in town, Well #1, was drilled to a depth of 140 feet, and is located in the municipal power plant building.
One of the first water towers was located on Elm Avenue.
In 1958 the Great Northern Railway found that it no longer had any use for the elevated water tank and tower located east of the depot. They gave it to the utility company and the utility relocated the tank and tower to the west side of Delano on Rieder’s hill off Bridge Avenue.
In 1970 a 495,000 gallon water tower was installed between the high school and County Road 30 SE.
The current water tower, located west of town between County Road 30 and Watertown Avenue, has a capacity of 1,500,000 gallons.
A new water treatment plant was completed in 2006 on the old water tower property north of the high school.
