Obituary
   Joseph A. Merriman was born October 25, 1867, in Minnetrista township near Mound, Minn., and passed away early Friday morning, January 16, 1942, at the age of 74 years, 2monthes and 21 days after an illness of over two years.
   He came to Delano on March 29, 1887, with his parents and sister who preceded him in death.
   He was united in marriage January 27, 1906, to Sadie Frances Orrison, who survives him. To this union eight children were born, five of whom are still living.  They are: Joseph, Jr., of Navarre, Van, Allen, Howard and Hazel of Delano. Besides the above names, there are two grandchildren.
   He was widely known in the surrounding community since he served the village of Delano in various capacities for nearly half a century, until his health failed.
   He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be sadly missed by his wife, family, and other relatives. He will also be greatly missed by his many friends in the community because of his years of public service.
   The Eagle extends its deepest sympathy to his bereaved family.
Funeral services drew a large crowd of friends and relatives who came to pay their last respects to one of Delano’s most colorful characters.
